Now that the library’s summer reading program has ended, what will keep you reading? How about breaking a world record? You can log the time you read this summer to help set a new record on the Scholastic Summer Challenge. Last year over 100,000 kids in 22 countries read 64,213,141 minutes! This year the record is already passing that–currently 67,106,788 reading minutes have been recorded.
Did you know that if you completed the library’s program you read 1,080 minutes? You can add that time to your Scholastic record along with all the minutes you read in the time before school starts. If you (or your parents) have an iPod Touch or smart phone, you can download a Scholastic Reading Timer app that will help you keep track of the minutes you read. This might be extra handy if you have a road trip scheduled before school starts! The Scholastic Summer Challenge doesn’t end until August 31, so you can even keep track of minutes you read during the first week of school! Good luck!
