The following book review was written by Dianna Burt, Children’s Librarian and Assistant Manager of the Hessen Cassel Branch Library.
Meet Me at the Moon by Gianna Marino is an exquisitely illustrated book. It’s a comforting story where mama elephant has to leave her baby to help bring rain to the land. But mama comes back and we see the lovely landscape in between. According to Gianna Marino’s website her paintings are done with watercolors, gouache, and mixed media. Meet Me at the Moon is her fourth picture book and I look forward to more.
I would use this story in Storytime for a parent and child theme, or on separation. It could also be used for an elephant theme, but the story isn’t so much about elephants as it is the child and parent relationship. I will definitely recommend this to parents with separation anxiety issues.
